1. The Government of Japan welcomes the formal signing of the agreement on peace in Aceh between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and Free Aceh Movement (GAM) on 15 August 2005.

2. The Government of Japan has consistently held a basic view that the issue of Aceh should be resolved peacefully under the principle of the territorial integrity of Indonesia and it continues to stand ready to extend necessary assistance to the efforts directed toward peaceful resolution of the Aceh issue.
