Outline:
The objective of the project is to increase rice production by developing an irrigation system in the upper Batang Hari basin, West Sumatra Province, and thereby raise farmers' income and contribute to poverty reduction in this region. The project consists of 2 phase. Under the first phase of the project, the construction of head works and development of main canals and secondary canals in the lower river basin have been already completed. Under the second phase of the project, it has been continued to construct main/secondary/tertiary canals and main/secondary drainage, as well as land development. It also includes Agricultural Extension Service Programs (AESP). The project is due to be completed in 2009.
