Outline:
The objective of the project is to increase rice and other food production and thereby reduce poverty by newly constructing and rehabilitating irrigation facilities in eight provinces in eastern Indonesia: South Surawesi, North Surawesi, Southeast Surawesi, Central Surawesi, Gorontalo, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and Bali. The project also has a component of strengthening the O&M system of irrigation, which includes empowerment of Water Users Associations (WUAs), capacity building of DINAS Water Resource Management (WRM) at provincial and district level and introduction of System Rice Intensification (SRI) technology. The project is due to be completed at the end of 2009.
