Harnessing geothermal energy to improve the tight power situation in South Sumatra

Project Outline :
The objective of the project is to mitigate tight power supply situation and improve the stability of power supply in the South Sumatra Power System by constructing a geothermal power plant (capacity: 110 MW) connected to this system in Lampung Province. This will lead to an improved investment climate and thereby contribute to economic development in the southern region of Sumatra Island. In addition, by harnessing renewable energy, the project will reduce emissions of air pollutants and carbon dioxide compared to operating a thermal power plant of similar size, thus helping reduce adverse impact on the global environment. The project is due to be completed in 2012.
