    Supporting the development of marine safety and measures against piracy and maritime terrorism in the coastal area of Indonesia

Outline:
The objective of the project is to improve maritime safety, a search and rescue system and countermeasures to piracy and maritime terror. The project consists of installing the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), a communications system for maritime safety and safe navigation, and the Automatic Identification System (AIS) in the coastal maritime communications stations in compliance to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Procedures for the procurement of equipment and materials are currently under way. The project is due to be completed in 2012.
