Jakarta, 2 October 2005 1. It was with a considerable shock that we received the news of major bomb attacks in Bali, Indonesia on the night of October 1, which has claimed many casualties including Japanese nationals. We extend our most sincere condolences to the deceased and the bereaved and also express our heartfelt sympathies toward the injured. 2. This most despicable and intolerable act follows previous bomb attacks in Bali (October, 2002), at JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta (August, 2003), and at Australian Embassy in Jakarta (September, 2004). Atrocious acts of terrorism cannot be justified for any reason. The Government of Japan renews its strong condemnation against them. 3. The Government of Japan intends to actively engage in the fight against terrorism in cooperation with the international community and will continue its support and cooperation to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in the area of counter terrorism. 4. The Government of Japan hopes that the background of this bombing will be promptly brought to light and will continue to do its utmost in the efforts to gather information concerning the safety of its nationals. |
