Japan’s Grant Aid to RI
(the Project for Bridge Construction in the Central and North Sulawesi Provinces)

1. The Completion Ceremony of Bridges Construction (Central Sulawesi province lot) under “the project for bridge construction in the Central and North Sulawesi Provinces” financed by Japanese Grant Assistance will be held at Buol Regency in Central Sulawesi Province at 10:00 AM on the 24th of October with the persons of Mr. Roestam Sjarief, Secretary General of ministry of Public Works, Mr. H. Aminuddin Ponulele, Governor of Central Sulawesi Province, Mr. Karim Hanggi, Chief of Buol Regency and Mr. Ali Hamid, Chief of Banggai Kupulauan Regency. Diplomatic Note of this Japanese Grant Assistance was signed on May 29, 2003 and total amount of grant is up to 1,046 million yen (approximately US$ 9 million or Rp 74 Billion according to the then exchange rate).

2. This Grant Assistance Project is to support the rehabilitation of 16 important bridges selected from these bridges that had been damaged by floods and earthquakes in the Central and North Sulawesi provinces in 2000 to prevent becoming isolated area because of lack of bridges.

3. The Government of Japan attaches importance to the support for equitable economic growth and the improvement of living standard of local residents. The GOJ hopes that these new constructed bridges under Japanese Grant Assistance will contribute to further improvement of regional traffic, and that it would also enhance local economic activities leading to improvement of their living standard.
