Japanese Emergency Assistance to Flood/ Landslide Disasters in Jawa Island

1. The Japanese government has decided to extend in kind assistance of emergency relief goods amounting to JPY 13 million including transportation cost (equivalent to USD 112,069) in response to the series of disasters including flood/landslide in Jember, East Jawa on January 1st, 2006 and landslide in Banjarnegara, Central Jawa on January 4th, 2006, which were caused by the continuous heavy rain lasting for several days in Indonesia. It is expected that this assistance will be helpful for the affected people faced with the difficult situation.

2. The assistance package to be provided contains the following relief goods :
      - Tents
      - Blanket
      - Sleeping Mat
      - Plastic sheet
      - Plastic tank

   Japan has extended emergency assistance in many cases of disasters in Indonesia, such as earthquakes in Nabire (Papua province) in February and December, 2004, earthquake in Alor (East Nusa Tenggara) in November, 2004, earthquake and tsunami in Aceh in December, 2004, and earthquake in Nias (North Sumatera) in March, 2005.
