Japan-Indonesia Joint Committee for Disaster Reduction

1. The first meeting of the “Japan-Indonesia Joint Committee for Disaster Reduction” was held on January 11, 2006, at the Cabinet Office of the Japanese Government, on the occasion of the visit to Japan of the Coordinating Minister for Welfare of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Aburizal Bakrie.

2. The joint committee is co-chaired by Minister for Disaster Prevention of Japan, H.E. Mr. Tetsuo Kutsukake, and Coordinating Minister Bakrie, to work out a report which will serve as a guidance for the comprehensive and effective measures to be taken in coping with natural disasters in Indonesia.

3. During his visit to Japan, Coordinating Minister Bakrie is scheduled to visit a number of disaster prevention related agencies in Japan, including the Meteorological Agency of Japan and the Tokyo Fire Department.

    The Joint Committee has been established based on the Joint Announcement on the Cooperation between the two Countries on Disaster Reduction concluded in the meeting between Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Japan in June 2005.
