Jakarta, 26 November 2015 Ninth Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries
1. | The United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), Attorney General Office (AGO) of Indonesia and Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia held the Opening Ceremony of the Ninth Good Governance Seminar, which was attended by 20 public prosecutors and officers of anti-corruption agencies representing most of the countries in the ASEAN region at JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta on 24th November 2015.
        The seminar is held every year for the purpose of establishing the rule of law and good governance in Southeast Asian Countries through capacity building for criminal justice practitioners and promotion of mutual understanding.

2. | On 24th , the Seminar started with the opening ceremony at which Mr. Kozo Honsei (Minister (Deputy Chief of Mission), Embassy of Japan in Indonesia), Mr. YAMASHITA, Terutoshi (Director of UNAFEI) from Japan, and Ms. Laksmi Indriyah (Acting Head of Legal and International Relations Bureau of AGO), Mr. Adnan Pandu Praja (the Commissioner of KPK) from Indonesia made opening addresses.
        Then, presentations and discussion stared based on the main theme of the Seminar, “Current Challenges and Best Practices in the Investigation, Prosecution and Prevention of Corruption Cases – Sharing Experiences and Learning from Actual Cases”. Sub-topics include “Mutual Legal Assistance and Recovery of Proceeds of Corruption” and “Public-Private Partnership to Prevent and Detect Corruption”. The seminar have been held to 26th November.

        UNAFEI, established in 1962 by agreement between the United Nations and the government of Japan, is one of the United Nations regional institutes located around the world and is operated under the joint auspices of these two bodies. UNAFEI’s main activities are to hold international training courses and seminars for criminal justice personnel from around the world and to conduct studies and research in the field of crime prevention and offender treatment. Until now, more than 5,000 officials from 137 countries/regions have participated in the programmes organized by UNAFEI. Following the United Nations policies and efforts concerning criminal justice, UNAFEI contributes to promoting the sound development of criminal justice systems and mutual cooperation among UN member states, especially developing countries in the Asia and Pacific Region.
