Jakarta, January 17, 2005 Japan's 14.6 Billion Yen Grant Aid to RI (In support of the Indonesian Government’s efforts to cope with the Damages caused by the Great Earthquake off the Coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and by the Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster) 1. The Government of Japan has decided to extend 14.6 billion yen (approximately US$ 146 million or Rp 1.314 trillion), to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, in order to support its efforts to cope with the damages caused by the Great Earthquake off the Coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and by the Indian Ocean Tsunami Disaster. The diplomatic notes will be signed between H.E. Mr. Yutaka Iimura, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, and Mr. Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat, Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs with the witness of H.E. Mr. Hassan Wirajuda, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Yusuf Anwar, Minister of Finance, at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta on January 17, 2005. 2. This grant aid was pledged to President Susilo Bambang Yodoyono by Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi, who visited Jakarta to attend Special ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting held on January 6, 2005. The grant aid will be disbursed to Indonesia immediately following up the Prime Minister’s pledging. This grant aid will be used effectively for the purchase of emergency relief goods and executing restoration works in the affected areas. 3. Regarding assistance for this Disaster, in addition to the above-mentioned grant aid, the Government of Japan is currently assisting as follows:
