Emergency Relief as a Response to the Earthquake
off the West Coast of Sumatra Island

1. The Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency assistance in kind, equivalent to US$150,000, and to dispatch the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team consisting of 11 members to the affected area as a response to the strong earthquake which occurred off the west coast of Sumatra Island on March 28th 2005.

2. (1) The medical team will be composed of 11 members (1 official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2 doctors and 3 nurses etc) and will be dispatched for 14 days from March 30, 2005.
(2) Emergency assistance in kind will be given in the form of 50 sets of tent (for 6 persons), 1,000 pieces of blanket, 300 pieces of sleeping mat and 20 sets of generator, and transportation to the affected area will be supported by Japan. The Government of Japan decided to extend this assistance from a humanitarian standpoint for the affected by the earthquake disaster and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Indonesia.
