Jakarta, 12 September 2005 1. The Government of Japan has provided grassroots assistance total of US$81,585 to improve welfare of mentally and physically handicapped children in Jakarta. A completion ceremony is held in Jakarta on September 12 at Foundation for the Care of Handicapped Children (YPAC Jakarta) with the attendance of Ambassador Yutaka Iimura. 2. Japan has extended the assistance in response to YPAC Jakarta’s request to set up slopes and renovate an old building, which could not be fully utilized especially by handicapped children because the only access to the second floor was by stairs. With this assistance, YPAC will be able to function more effectively as the only institution, which gives medical treatment, education and vocational training all together for handicapped children. 3. Ambassador Iimura stated in his speech, “I am pleased to make contribution to support handicapped children’s welfare. Japan has been supporting vulnerable people, especially disabled children. Our hope is this support for children will further promote the good relationship between Japan and Indonesia.”   |
