Jakarta, 26 September 2005 Japan Sends Expert Team on Avian Influenza to Indonesia.

1. On 26 September, the Government of Japan has decided to send expert team on avian influenza to Indonesia.
2. The expert team, whose dipatch has been requested during the discussion last week between Coordination Minister Alwi Shihab and Japanese Ambassador Iimura, will arrive in Jakarta on 27 September and will stay for about a week. The missions of the team include :
    - information gathering about the situation of avian influenza,
    - giving advise to the Indonesian authorities on countermeasures, and
    - considering about the needs of further assistance.
3. The team will include five members in total, composed of two experts from Japanese National Institute of Infectious Diseases, one about countermeasures against infectious disease and one about diagnostics of influenza virus, and three officials from Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA, one of which is a medical doctor who is in charge of the Avian Influenza coordination team established in the Foreign Ministry. |
