Jakarta, 11 November 2005 1. A group of Japanese experts with medical materials will be dispatched to Indonesia to support the Indonesian govenmnet to strengthen counter-measures against Avian Influenza (AI). Six experts in the field of surveillance, laboratory diagnosis and medical treatment, will arrive in Indonesia on 13 November 2005, together with the second batch of medical materials. The medical materials contain: (1) for the surveillance; a bed side monitor, Personal Protective Equipments (PPE), reagents for diagnosis, laboratory instruments, (2) for the laboratory diagnosis; PPEs, and (3) for the medical treatment; an ultra-low temperature freezer, a bio hazard cabinet, reagents for laboratory use, while a real time PCR will be the next procurement. 2. Japan has already sent 3 experts of laboratory diagnosis on 26 October 2005, together with the first batch on medical materials. 3. In Indonesia, after the first death case due to AI infection was confirmed in July 2005, nine cases, out of which five were dead, have been confirmed by WHO, and more than eighty suspected cases are reported to be under observation.   |
