Completion Ceremony of Sipansihaporas Hydroelectric Power Plant in North Sumatra Province Financed by Japanese Yen Loan

1. The Completion Ceremony of Sipansihaporas Hydroelectric Power Plant and Interconnecting Transmission Line Construction Project financed by Japanese Yen Loan will be held at Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province at 10:00 A.M.on December 1st 2005 in the ypresence of H.E. Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Pardede, Acting Governor of North Sumatra Province, and Mr. Hiroharu Hashi, Consulat General of Japan in Medan. Yen Loan for Engineering Services, 1st phase of Construction and 2nd phase of Construction were announced respectively in 1992, 1995 and 1996. Total amount of Yen Loan extended for the project was up to 12,206 million yen, approximately US$ 103 million or Rp. 995 billion.

2. The main purpose of this Yen Loan project is to improve the tight supply-demand situation of electricity in North Sumatra area. Indonesia has an abundant renewable energy resources such as geothermal and hydro energy and this project is useful in exploiting such renewable energy resources. And also, this project contributes to the reduction of dependence of electricity on oil fuels.

3. The government of Japan (GOJ) has been supporting economic growth and progress of living standard in Indonesia through the improvement of investment climate such as infrastructure. GOJ hopes that the electricity from this hydroelectric power plant which is financed by Japanese Yen Loan could contribute to that further, by promoting the industrial development and enhancing peoples' life through supplying electricity to North Sumatra and Nangroe Aceh Darussalam provinces.
