1. The Urgent Recovery Project for Reconstruction of West Coast Road between Calang and Meulaboh in Aceh was launched on December 16, 2005 utilizing a part of Japanese Grant Assistant for tsunami Disaster Assistance amounting to USD 14.6 billion Japanese Yen (approximately USD 146 million).

2. The Ground-breaking ceremony of the project was held at Meulaboh in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province from 10 AM on December 16, 2005 with the presence of Drs. H. Nasruddin, M.Si., Chief of West Aceh Regency, Ir. Zulfian Ahmad, Chief of Aceh Jaya Regency, officials of the Ministry of Public Works and Embassy of Japan in Jakarta.

3. The project is to reconstruct west coast road between Calang and Meulaboh, which had been destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004, in order to support logistics of rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts surrounding the project site. The project is further expected to contribute to quick recovery and normalization of the living of local population after the disaster, especially in the west coastal area.
