Handing-over Ceremony of Tents for School
In response to the aftermath of the Earthquake Disaster
in Yogyakarta and Central Java

1. Two hundred units of tents for school use, procured with the grant assistance from the Government of Japan in response to the aftermath of the earthquake disaster which hit Yogyakarta and Central Jawa on 27 May, arrived at the disaster site on 8 June. The handing-over ceremony of the tents took place on 9 June in Bantul regency, Representative from the Embassy of Japan, handed over the tents to the representative from Yogyakarta Special Region local government, in the presence of those concerned.


2. In response to the earthquake, the Government of Japan has decided to give a grant assistance of total US$ 10 million, of which US$ 4 million is given to the Government of Indonesia as emergency assistance, and the 200 units of tents were procured using a part of this fund. The tents will be used as temporary school classes for schools in the affected areas, such as Bantul regency. Furthermore, additional tents for school, tents for families, blankets, plastic sheets, etc. are also scheduled to arrive soon.


3. Japan will also extend assistance for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Japan is now considering, to provide appropriate assistance for education in particular, in accordance with the result of the survey and needs assessment made by a government mission from Japan on the ground since 6 June
