After the orientation briefing and opening ceremony of the Program, a number of representatives of the participants will leave Singapore by plane for a visit to Myanmar (Yangoon), while the participants on board will leave Singapore on 4 November for Indonesia (Jakarta - Tanjung Priok port). After Jakarta, the next ports of call for the ship “Nippon Maru” will be Port Kelang in Malaysia, Muara in Brunei, and Manila in the Philippines. “Nippon Maru” will arrive at Tokyo, as her final destination, on 4 December.     “The Program of the Ship for Southeast Asia Youths” is based on the Joint Statement issued in January 1974 between Japan and Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, respectively. The program is carried out annually, and this year’s program is the 33rd program.     During the voyage of approximately 50 days, the participants of the program will be engaged in various activities such as introducing the culture of their own countries, holding discussions, etc. either on board the ship or in the countries they visit. It is expected that through such activities the participants could promote friendship and deepen mutual understanding. A number of programs are on the agenda for their visit in Jakarta, including courtesy calls on officials of the Indonesian government, visit to the ASEAN Secretariat, home-stay with Indonesian families, and many others.     The program of about 50 days is expected to provide the participants with the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and nurture friendship, broaden their horizon, and learn about international cooperation, so that in the future, they could contribute to the development of the international world community as leaders in various fields . |
