Jakarta, December 27, 2006 Handing Over Ceremony for the Vocational Training Centre and Full Opening Ceremony for the Completion of the West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project

The handing over ceremony for the Vocational Training Center was held in Banda Aceh on December 26, 2006. Mr. Satoru Satoh, DCM/ Minister of Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Ir. Harry Heriawan Saleh, MSc, Secretariate General, Ministery of Manpower and Transmigration, and other dignitaries participated in the ceremony.
The opening ceremony of the West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project was held in Meulaboh on December 27, 2006. With the assistance of Japan, the West Coast Road extending about 130km between Calang to Meaulaboh has been fully opened. Mr. Satoru Satoh, DCM/Minister of Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Mr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Director of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Ache and Nias, and others dignitaries participated in the ceremony.
Japan’s assistance in response to earthquake and tsunami disaster in Aceh and Nias
  → Grant assistance of approx. USD 300 million is implemented or underway.
(1) | Bilateral Assistance (USD160 million)
(a) | Project of Non-project grant aid, including urgent recovery of the west coast road, recovery of water supply and sanitation system etc. |
(b) | JICA projects, including restoration of raw sewage processing facility in Banda Aceh, emergency rehabilitation and reconstruction plan for Banda Aceh etc. (USD140 million) |

(2) | Contribution to Assistance through international organizations (USD 140million)
(a) | Contribution in response to the UN flash appeal (approx. USD 120 million allocated for Indonesia) |
(b) | Assistance through World Bank and Asian Development Bank (USD 20 million) |
