Jakarta, 22 June 2009 Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Invitation Programme of Indonesian High School Students (First Batch)

Three hundred Indonesian high school students will visit Japan, in three batches of 100 each, from 22 June to 6 July under Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths Programme (JENESYS). Departure Ceremony for the first batch of one hundred students will be held at 12:30 on 22 June in Sultan Hotel, Jakarta. |

Their activities in Japan include visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, stay in Ibaraki, Shizuoka, Tokushima or Okinawa Prefecture where students will join study and other activities in the local high schools, home-stay at the Japanese family etc. in order to promote friendship between the Japanese high school students and the Japanese people in general. The students will also visit environmental, scientific, industrial and cultural places. |

JENESYS Programme was announced at the Second East Asia Summit held in January 2007 by then Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe, as a large scale USD 315 million youth exchange programme for East Asia under which approximately 6,000 youths would be invited to Japan every year over the next five years. |

This is the second year of the Programme. Three hundred high school students have visited Japan last year for the first year of the Progremme It is hoped that mutual understanding and friendship between the young generations of the two countries will be further promoted, building a firm and stable foundation for Indonesia-Japan relationship in the future to come. |

The second batch and the third batch of one hundred high school students each will depart for Japan on 29 June and 6 July respectively. |
