Jakarta, 22 April 2015 The President of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Joko Widodo and the Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe met in Jakarta, Indonesia on 22 April 2015, during the sidelines of the 60th Asian-African Conference Commemoration. The two leaders stressed their commitment to strengthen the Strategic Partnership underpinned by sea and democracy based upon mutually beneficial cooperation, friendly relations and shared values as expressed during the visit of President Joko Widodo to Japan on 23 March 2015. Prime Minister Abe highly valued Indonesia’s active roles in contributing to the regional and global stability and prosperity including through promoting Asian-African cooperation such as hosting the 60th Commemoration of the Asian African Conference. President Joko Widodo praised Japan’s enduring efforts and positive contributions to the regional and global economic development and as one of Japans’ said contributions he highly appreciated Japan’s assistance for the development of African countries especially through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process. The two leaders reconfirmed the importance of Japan-Indonesia Partnership Programme (JIPP) signed on 10 December 2003 by Foreign Ministers of Indonesia and Japan. The two leaders recognized the solid partnership between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Japan under the JIPP has been extending joint technical assistance to developing countries for their social and economic development, especially to African and Asian countries, by effectively combining Japanese and Indonesian human, technological and financial resources. The two leaders noted with satisfaction the increasing roles of Indonesia and Japan on technical cooperation; Japan by appropriate technology transfer and through Triangular cooperation; and Indonesia by playing a greater role as a development partner. The two leaders confirmed to promote the mutually beneficial partnership on Triangular Cooperation to the African countries in line with the philosophy of TICAD process and in synergy with concrete cooperation program under this process, focusing on four areas mainly in which two countries have been playing a crucial role in facilitating knowledge exchange of best practices and lessons learnt in the long history of bilateral cooperation. They also shared intention to explore further possible cooperation in other areas in the same context. The two leaders acknowledged that the ongoing cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of Japan has the potential to allow strategic benefits that could further improve the lives of the people in Asian and African regions. |
