The First meeting for Steering Committee on Climate Change Program Loan

1. | The First meeting for Steering Committee on Climate Change Program Loan was held on November 14th (Friday) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Ken OKANIWA, Minister of Embassy of Japan on the Japanese side and Ms.Umiyatun H.Triastuti, Deputy-Minister of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) on the Indonesian side.
The meeting was attended by, among others, Mr. Hironori HAMANAKA (former vice-minister for Global Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of the Environment, and incumbent Chair of the Board of Directors, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) ) as a team-leader of Japan’s Monitoring and Advisory Team. |
2. | The Government of Indonesia (GOI) established the Steering Committee on Climate Change Program Loan in order to follow up progress made by the GOI in its efforts to address climate change issues under Climate Change Program Loan. And at this first meeting, participants from both sides discussed future steps to enhance monitoring arrangements and other related efforts, while information and views was widely shared and exchanged as to progress made by the GOI. |
3. | Participants from both governments shared the view that the meeting was very meaningful and both sides will make practical follow-ups with continuing the meeting for Steering Committee. |

The Government of Japan extended a loan in Japanese Yen up to the amount of 30.8 billion Yen to the GOI, for the purpose of supporting the GOI’s efforts in addressing climate change issues, under Climate Change Program Loan, the Exchange of Notes for which was signed this August as the first case based on Cool Earth Partnership since its announcement of this January.
