    Special Envoys of the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Masakazu TOYODA and Ambassador Yoshinori KATORI, who are visiting Jakarta, met on December 5 with Minister for Foreign Affairs, H. E. Dr. Hassan Wirayuda, Minister of Finance, H. E. Dr. Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Minister of Trade, H. E. Dr. Mari E. Pangestu and exchanged views on the appropriate policy to pursue in order to promote economic growth and development in Asia in light of the current global financial and economic crisis.     In the meeting, the two Special Envoys explained that in Japan’s view, it is important on the one hand for the Asian countries to cooperate and to respond to the impacts of the global financial crisis and on the other hand to strengthen Asia’s growth potential and expand domestic demand. They conveyed Japan’s view that it is important for the East Asian countries to share concrete policy directions at the East Asia Summit and ASEAN plus 3 Summit and to take united actions. They asked for the support and cooperation of the Government of Indonesia.     H. E. Dr. Hassan Wirayuda expressed his support for Japan’s view explained by the Envoys, which he promised to convey to H. E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia. He also expressed his wish to closely coordinate with Japan on this matter towards the East Asia Summit and ASEAN plus 3 Summit, which he hoped to see taking place as early as possible. H. E. Dr. Sri Mulyani and H. E. Dr. Mari Pangestu echoed their strong support to Japan’s view and their wishes to closely coordinate with Japan, noting that speedy actions are important. They also explained the impact of the current global financial and economic crisis on the Indonesian economy, and asked for Japan’s further cooperation.. |
